Rug is a word my clients hear from me too often! We tend to incorporate a rug in every space we design and think it's very important to not only think about the colour and pattern of the rugs but the material it's composed of. Rug texture is often the reason you fall in love with your selected rug or the reason you wish you had never chosen it in the first place.
Rugs can often seem like owning a pet, they require regular maintenance and some require more maintenance than others. Some easy tips to keep your rug looking fresh is to vacuum it (carefully!) often and to rotate it regularly to keep furniture from creating indentations in the material. Today we will share everything you need to know about your rug, its material, and where to use it in your home.
Synthetic rugs are both durable and affordable that are often shed and stain resistant. Synthetic rugs are often made to mimic higher end materials like wools. They are very easy to clean making them great for kids spaces and rooms with heavy traffic such as foyers and family rooms.
Our favourite wool texture that instantly adds texture and a richness to any space. Wool is the most popular rug material, it is both soft and resilient and is what we use in all of our clients' spaces. Wool does shed so it does need to be vacuumed regularly to keep the mess down.
Known for their natural and organic tones, jute and sisal will warm up any space and add a level of comfort. These natural grass rugs are great for high traffic areas and are often seen in foyers and indoor/outdoor spaces. They do have some downsides though, they are difficult to clean, shed and don't hold their shape easily. We personally love a jute rug and often will use it as a border, placing a smaller rug on top of it, the best of both worlds!
Cotton rugs are a cost effective option and often a laid back and comfortable feel. Cotton rugs don't wear well and often don't have a long life span so they are great for casual spaces.
